19th Continental Regiment 1776

The 19th Continental Regiment was raised in Connecticut and commanded by Colonel Charles Webb.  It saw service during the New York campaign of 1776  as part of McDougall 's brigade. It participated at the battle of White Plains on 28 October 1776.  As part of Washington's army It retreated across the Jerseys and later fought at the battle of Trenton.  Most of the regiment' s enlistments expired after that,  but enough men volunteered to stay on that the regiment fought at second Trenton and Princeton.

I found little in the way of uniform information for this regiment.  One deserter description mentioned drab or light colored coats while another mentioned a blue coat.  I went with drab brown with blue facings. Musicians are in reversed colors of blue faced drab brown.  Conjecture in my part but based on what little information I could find.  Didn't he Regimental Colors I used the Grand Union with a blue Gostelowe flag.  Both types of flags were used during the time.

    1. AJ, George did a very nice job of resizing and printing the flags. Once he gets to use the laser printer they could be better. Very happy with them.

    2. I prefer inkjet so you can do the flag dude technique on them. Now thatI have a color laser printer I miss my old inkjet. I am considering buying one just for flags and glkssy photos.

  3. These are very nice figures - quite simple and "minimalist" compared with some other modern designs but they still look very effective!

    1. Thank you .I agree the RSM figures are very minimalistic compared with many newer figures out there but they have a charm many new figures lack.

  4. Lovely...
I do like the contrast between the ‘drab’ uniforms and the colourful standards.

    All the best. Aly

  6. Definitely a fine looking representation of Colonel Charles Webb’s 19th Continental Regiment of 1776. The soldier’s uniforms look right, but the two regimental flags however are completely wrong. The first of the two had been the flag of the Sons of Liberty and was in prominent use upon flag poles a few years earlier, whilst the second flag belonged to one of the thirteen Additional Continental Regiments of 1777. The actual flag that Colonel Webb used for that particular regiment still exists though badly preserved, along with three of the four divisional colors that Washington had ordered for the Continental Regiments to fly in February of that year. It features a female Indian holding a sword over a dead British soldier along with the Latin inscription “In Meridiem Progred”, which translated means “Before The Midday Hour has passed”. Perhaps hoping for a short war and easy victory over the British army.

    1. Hello, can you please give more details about the actual flag that you mentioned? I'm working in the same unit in the same time period and I can't find any information about the colours and uniforms. Is there any website where I can see the actual flag?. thank you kindly.

  8. One of my distant ancestors, Stephen Upson, was killed in the Harlem Heights battle at 18. This is really appreciated. Thanks.
